Fisheries Volunteer Project in Puerto Lopez - Ecuador |
Lack of historical data about Ecuador’s marine resources makes very hard to establish the right policies to manage our resources today.
The goal of this project this will be to interview old fishermen to recreate the status of past Ecuador marine resources.
In addition, the project will provide environmental education to fishermen’s children, about the value of the National Park’s natural resources. Hopefully, the local residents will value the Park’s resources more if they feel a increased sense of ownership for those resources. Even though the National Park is close to their homes, many of the local residents have never visited the area. Depending on the age of the local school students this project will involve games and costumed presentations relating to the marine resources of the National Park.
