English Teaching Volunteer in Ecuador gives you the opportunity to assitant the teachers, to teach English in a public school in Cloud Forest, Coast, Amazon or Quito, to play with children.
The quality of English Teaching in Ecuador is still poor. We have analphabetism and low education levels, as well as high rates of repetition and high school dropout. Generally there is poor infrastructure and scarce quality English teaching materials.
Like food, shelter, water and education are the ones of the fundamentals for a child’s survival. The government is taking steps to provide educational facilities in the most remote rural areas of the country, but there is major staff (teaching and non-teaching) shortage in these schools making them unable to cope with a growing population.
Families face many challenges with the educational system in Ecuador. While education is compulsory and free for children age 6 to 18, families are faced with additional charges such as inscription, supplies and transportation. In many rural locations, there is a language barrier with indigenous people who speak Quechua but not Spanish. There is also a lack of facilities, along with a lack of the basics such as textbooks, paper and other typical supplies. The economic situation in Ecuador forces many families to put their children into the workforce in lieu of an education.
For all these reasons, Eco Volunteer UP is in need of volunteers who are champions for the English Teaching of children. Every effort made by the volunteers is a vital step forward for this country.
In Ecuador passion for English language develops due to the rapidly growing tourism industry, and the country's desire to get access into the global economy. A country blessed with cultural and natural majesty, tourism emerges as an increasingly viable means of generating income. Knowledge of English is undoubtedly helpful to attract more tourists and expand the horizon of tourism business in many English speaking audiences. Many local schools requested English volunteers to help them to achieve their goal of speaking English.
